An oil change receipt documents the service performed on a vehicle, including the type of oil used, filter replacement, mileage at service, and the next recommended service date. The top of an oil change receipt displays the shop name, address, and phone number. Many shops also include their business license number and the technician's name or ID. Chain shops like Jiffy Lube, Valvoline, or Take 5 use standardized headers, while independent mechanics often include their specialty certifications (ASE, AAA Approved).
Below the header, you'll find a work order number, the date of service, and a vehicle identification section. The vehicle section typically includes the year, make, model, color, license plate number, and current mileage. Some shops also record the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) for warranty and service history purposes.
The service section lists each item performed: oil drain and refill (specifying conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic), oil filter replacement, fluid top-offs, and any additional services like tire rotation or air filter replacement. Each line shows the part cost and labor charge separately. The oil type and viscosity (e.g., 5W-30, 0W-20) are always specified.
The payment section shows parts subtotal, labor subtotal, applicable tax (usually only on parts, not labor, depending on the state), shop supplies fee, and the total. Many oil change receipts include a separate line for environmental/disposal fees. Payment method details follow — cash, card type with last four digits, or fleet account number.
The footer typically includes the next recommended service date or mileage (e.g., 'Next service: 37,000 miles or 3 months'), a warranty statement for the service performed, and the shop's return policy. Many shops include a customer satisfaction survey URL or QR code. Some also print a reminder sticker specification for the customer's windshield.
